I got a few days off between  hunts so I thought I would post a few pictures from my 2009 hunting season. I’m headed back to Icy Bay this weekend for a couple more moose hunts then I’m done for the year.

Here is Mark one of my hunting clients with his first Alaskan moose. He took it about two miles from his brown bear.

Floating the Skwentna River in south central Alaska for brown bear

Floating the Skwentna River in south central Alaska for brown bear

We spent about three weeks in August doing float trips on the Skwentna River hunting brown bears. The weather was beautiful sunny and warm. The Cook Inlet salmon run was one of the poorest I have ever seen but the berry crop was one of the best. Good and bad no salmon in the rivers, no bears eating them in the rivers. All the bears were in the berry patches while we were on the river. Oh well it ws still a lot of fun!

Small black bear on the Skewentna River

Whoops been caught!

This small black bear kept us entertained one afternoon until she decided to check out our rubber raft.  I’ll be back with more after I get back in Oct.

joe-beachs-air-boat service

We used Joe Beach’s air boat to run our rafters up the Skwentna River for our float hunts down the Skwentna. If you are looking for some out of the way fishing, rafting, or kayaking on the Skwentna River system Joe is the guy to see. You can contact him at:  beacheslanding at gmail dot com
